God has performed a miracle in her eye!!

Buenos Dias,

We've been home for five months and Belicia is doing great!! I began homeschooling her for a couple of weeks and decided it was best to put her into school. She was doing great learning, but it was taking up tons of time trying to break through the language barrier. Now she has one on one ESL instruction every single day, plus she has some little Latino girls that sit with her in class. This gives her the opportunity throughout the day to speak Spanish. She really wants to come home for school, but Jim and I both think she needs to stay in one more year (through 3rd grade). The school is doing such a wonderful job helping her with English that I think one full grade will help me immensely when I bring her home and she has a foundation of grammar.

Now to the really EXCITING news... we were told in November by Delaware Eye Surgeons and in December by AI DuPont that she was blind in her left eye. Even within a couple of inches of her eye, she could not see the bright light they would shine in it. We were told that the parasite did so much damage that her sight would never be restored and that there were no surgical procedures to help.... basically, the parasite ate most of the inside of her eye out. Well... about 3-4 weeks ago as we were putting her to bed, Jim covered her right eye and asked if she could see me. I thought to myself, "How s-t-u-p-i-d, you know she can't see". Much to our amazement, she said, "Yes". We began to test her by holding up fingers and she could accurately tell us how many we had up. Jim stood at the foot of her bed while I covered her right eye and Belicia was able to tell him what object he was holding and the color of it!!! She told us that she began to regain vision around her birthday (1/15) and it's been improving. She still can't make out things like numbers on flashcards, but we are believing that God is not finished... that He is going to restore her vision to 20/20.

Chao,
Kathy
